Extracts and Ingredients

The natural extracts that we put in our products are the key element to the beneficial goodness of the products, which is why Bath House is so much more than just a pretty face. They are the heart and soul of the product, and most importantly, we ensure that we add extracts at a percentage that will really be of benefit to you. We use many different extracts and natural ingredients in our product. You will see that on each product page on our website, there's a list of the key extracts we add.  We've chosen some of our favourites below, with a little more information on each one.

 

Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis)
Expressed from the Aloe Vera which is a South African Lily-like plant.  Aloe Vera improves hydration and has renowned soothing and healing properties. It is also hailed for its anti-ageing effect on skin.
Andiroba Oil (Carapa guianensis)
Extracted from the Brazilian Mahogany tree, this oil has anti-inflammatory healing effects and is often used in cosmetics for its skin-renewal properties.
Argan Extract
Produced from the kernals of the endemic argan tree and valued for its nutritive properties.  For centuries Argan was a well-kept secret known only to Berber women in Morocco who use it to nourish their skin, hair and nails.
Bergamot Oil (Citrus aurantium)
An extract from the rind of the bergamot orange.  With antiseptic and antibacterial properties known for their toning and fragrant effects. This light, delicate and refreshing citrus floral oil helps uplift the mind, relieving anxiety and nervous tension.
Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cocao)
A rich emollient with excellent skin softening and conditioning properties.  Incredibly high level of Vitamin E and responsible for many of its beneficial properties.
Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis)
Cold pressed from the seeds of the flower it is exceptionally high in fatty acids, especially the essential gamma linolenic which helps with eczema and psoriasis.  Components in this oil help skin cells regenerate.  Making it ideal for wrinkles and dry, damaged or aging skin.
Fig Milk
Figs are restorative, they help to preserve the strength of the skin. Fig Milk helps to nourish, reinforce and re-densify the appearance of older skin 
Geranium Oil (Pelargonium graveolens)
This uplifting oil has a great all-over balancing effect on the mind and this uplifting property also extends to the effect it has on the skin - where it helps to create balance between oily and skin.
Ginkgo Extract
Extracted by a unique cold process that retains all of the valuable components of this herb.  Increases moisture retention in the upper layer of the skin and soothes irritation in sensitive skins.
Glycerine
An odourless, colourless syrup, a derivative of olive oil, glycerine is a wonderful emollient and serves to help keep creams and lotions from drying out and at the same time leaves skin moist and soft.
Ginkgo Extract
Extracted by a unique cold process that retains all of the valuable components of this herb.  Increases moisture retention in the upper layer of the skin and soothes irritation in sensitive skins.
Jasmine Oil (Jasminium officinale)
One of the precious essential oils, known for its intoxicatingly sensuous aroma intensely floral, warm, sweet and exotic.  Helps to soothe dry sensitive skin, heals dermatitis and tones aging skin.
Jojoba Oil(Simmondsia Chinensis)t
Extracted by a unique cold process that retains all of the valuable components of this herb.  Increases moisture retention in the upper layer of the skin and soothes irritation in sensitive skins.
Lavender Oil (Lavandula angustifolia)
The aroma from Lavender is soothing, calming and relaxing. Its active ingredients work to increase cellular regeneration.  Generally regarded as one of the most beneficial and essential oils to use in body care.
Macadamia Nut Oil (Macadamia integrifolia)
Cold pressed from the nuts of Australian Macadamia trees. Known as the ‘crème de la crème’ of nut oils and is one of the best regenerative oils available.  It is protective oil with a high absorption rate.
Patchouli Oil (Pogostemon cablin)
Has a strong earthy and exotic fragrance.  In skin care, Patchouli is a potent anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial agent.  It supports the regeneration of new cells and tissues and is excellent for dry, aging skin.
Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii)
This wonderfully lush butter is extracted from the pit of a fruit which grows on the African Mangifolia tree.  Traditionally used in Africa as a healing balm.  Ideal in softening and moisturising skin and rich in vitamin A & E.
Sustainable Palm Oil (Sodium Palm Kernelate)t
Many of our soaps are now made in Scotland using a certified sustainable palm oil. This high grade vegetable oil is sourced from a region of Sierra Nevada De Santa Marta in Bolivia. Palm oil from this region is farmed in accordance with strict sustainable policies, avoiding deforestation, protecting the bio-diversity and fauna of the region; and also employs local families on small to medium farmsteads. We are one of the very few British companies currently using sustainable palm oil in their soap bases.
Vitamin E
Obtained by vacuum distillation of vegetable oils, this skincare essential vitamin is often referred to as nature’s own healing agent. Vitamin E is believed to penetrate below the skin’s surface to rejuvenate damaged skin cells.
Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata)
Extracted from the blossom and known for its uplifting, balancing and stimulating properties.  With an exotic sweet floral fragrance..
Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)
Extracted by steam form the leaves of the paperbark tea tree, with beneficial antiseptic, antifungal and antibacterial action that has been prized since the early 20th century but has a much longer history of use by some of the Aboriginal tribes of Australia.
