Who we are
Have you ever had one of those crazy ideas about making lovely beautiful things and selling them to people just like you? Maybe you could make enough money, so you can make more fab stuff, and if you have...and time flies by, you might just find that one day you've become a bit of an expert! Knowing all about plant extracts and fantastic ingredients with very long names, your nose has become a finely tuned instrument to balance ottoman rose, ylang ylang and patchouli, and now you know lots about skin types, natural astringents and all sorts about bathing and bodycare.
Would I do it again? Never! Well, not on my own. Bath House has always been a shared dream; there are four of us, all good at different things, but all focussed and passionate about the end result and together we've pulled through the ups and the downs to make Bath House what it is today.
So who are my super hero partners and what are they supposed to be doing when they're not charging about doing everything else? Firstly there's Pauline who makes sure everybody's got what they need to wrap and pack and is brill for bouncing creative ideas around the room, then there's Glyn in accounts who makes sure all the money goes round so everyone’s happy. Abigail, who’s creative and designery and sets her sights very high so we have to pull out all the stops to realise her ‘vision’. And of course there's me, Nigel who is a bit creative, bit impractical, but occasionally has a flash pure inspiration (I like that bit !). And of course the real heroes are our workforce who are equally dedicated, equally passionate and always go that extra mile - without them we'd be sunk.
Why we love what we do
Here at Bath House, we just love creating new fragrant collections. Being able to make something you believe in wholeheartedly is fantastic, and doing it as a job? Well it's not really like that, is it! Don't get me wrong, it's no bed of roses - it's hard work and sometimes it doesn't all go to plan but the end results, when you've been involved at every stage and worked together as a team from initial idea to choosing fragrance, base formulations and packaging that all go together to create a beautiful product, it’s so worth it. Where we are
Our home is in Sedbergh, Cumbria, nestled beneath the windswept Howgill fells, and from our windows, as we work away sending our products all over the world, we look onto a beautiful and dramatic landscape. Our converted grain store is tailored to suit all our business needs, and it's great that our offices, production area and warehousing are all together at the one site. Our workforce is mainly from local families which means there is a great community spirit within the building and come snow, rain and quite often flood, we find everyone pulls together to get in and get on. We do see the sun once in a while usually when it’s got lost and should be somewhere else.
Sedbergh is part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Agriculture is at its heart and it has recently become a book town and is home to the famous Sedbergh School. Small, picturesque and quiet, it is a place of timeless beauty and is a centre for rambling and walking.
